Brieuc Remy (B. 1991 Dijon, France) lives and works in Aubervilliers (France).
"My artistic practice is pictorial, staging a fictional world that develops over time. I'm interested in the body, its evolution and the power relations in which it is engaged.
Since 2020, I have decided to focus my research on one medium, dry pastel, whose use in Art History I question.
My early work, studies of canine figures wearing wigs, mocked the codes of classical portraiture during the Baroque period.
As the paintings progressed, my protagonists accumulated and mutated, taking on the form of hybrid animals, summoning up an aesthetic specific to the make-up and visual effects of late-twentieth-century genre cinema.
As the body is deconstructed, it becomes abstract. In my most recent work, the body is only partially visible. Organic forms now mingle with architectural and mechanical curves, weaving together links between the living and the technological."
